Shea Homes' Monarch Club opens today with a mix of food, spa services and lounging space; members get even more
March 1, 2008The Monarch Club opens today at Trilogy Central Coast, a residential community on the Nipomo Mesa.
At 31,000 square feet, the club was built by Shea Homes for about $25 million. It offers activities for the community's 1,120 households plus visitors, said Preston Holdner, general manager.
Public venues at the club, east of Highway 1, include Adelina's Bistro, a 40-seat restaurant with Pandee Pearson, formerly of Windows on the Water in Morro Bay, as chef; an adjoining market featuring produce, coffee and local wines; Sandalwood Spa with massage and relaxation packages; lounging space with interior and exterior fireplaces; and a 200-person-capacity ballroom with patio for weddings and meetings.
Bistro dishes are prepared with many ingredients from local farmers markets, Pearson added.
Amenities reserved for the development's homebuyers, who pay $300 a month for club access through their homeowners associations, are a junior Olympic-sized pool with cabanas and a waterfall; four lighted tennis courts; art studio; wine library; learning lounge with reading material and access to Cal Poly Continuing Education courses; and fitness studio with cardio equipment programmable to fit varied regimens.
Other homeowner perks include wine-related programs, parties, poolside activities and group trips headed by Jens Kliemann, resort operations director. In addition, the Village Center, a 140,000-square-foot shopping and restaurant venue with courtyard, is set to break ground in one to two years by community master developer Woodlands LLC, Holdner said.
"They're looking at a small market and potentially a drugstore, so all the resources people need are right there," he added.
A grand opening showcasing Monarch Club amenities is set for 11 a. m. to 3 p. m. today with free jazz and reggae performances, face painting, wildlife talks, food and beverages.
