NIPOMO — Trilogy Central Coast celebrated Earth Day with Bob the alligator and Maya the spider and other animals from the Zoo To You environmental education program.

Dozens of Trilogy members enjoyed the Zoo-To-You "Vanished" presentation about endangered species and learned how habitat destruction, pet marketeering and hunting animals for their fur and skins have pushed these animals and others to extinction.

The program was part of Trilogy's commitment to the environment and lifelong learning opportunities for members.

Some of the Zoo-To-You animals like Maya were pets illegally acquired by people and later abandoned because of "annoying" habits, like biting or swinging from the chandeliers. Maya, found injured and malnourished in a dumpster in Los Angeles, was taken in by Zoo-To-You about 20 years ago. She makes regular appearances in programs like the one at Trilogy for schools and organizations.

"There are many reasons why you don't want monkeys in your house," Lamar said. "They definitely belong in the rain forest, not on your sofa."

The program, part of Trilogy's commitment to lifelong learning and a healthy environment, was "wonderful," said resident Karen Steves. "What a great way to enjoy Earth Day."

While exploration and adventure enhance the Trilogy Central Coast lifestyle, nothing beats coming home. Trilogy Central Coast homes, built by award-winning Shea Homes, are beautiful single-family residences with the most popular designs and desirable features.
