Challenge
The Hearst Corporation offered to abandon its development rights on 82,000 acres of pristine Central Coast ranchland, but the Sierra Club mobilized nationally to demand unreasonable additional concessions.

 

Result
BCA contributed a public relations strategy and execution, including organizing supporter rallies at the State Capitol, managing media relations and generating grassroots support. Hearst not only won the war of public opinion, it won the war of governmental opinion. The land was protected from development.
