Many schools in the San Luis Coast Unified School District are more than 50 years old and are in desperate need of repair and renovation. The last tax measure passed by the school district, Measure A, was passed by voters in 1990 and paid off in 2001. Fourteen years later, the district needed new funds for future work.
Pass a $177 million bond initiative to raise money for facilities improvements in SLCUSD schools. The money will go exclusively to repair facilities, construct new buildings, and upgrade each site based on a completed needs assessment.
BCA worked closely with the campaign committee, developing informative collateral, a picture-heavy website to tell the district’s story, a PR plan to activate voters, and a Facebook page to engage the community. In the November 2014 election, the bond measure was approved by nearly 72% of voters who live in the San Luis Coastal Unified School District’s area. Construction on many projects including improvements to structural safety, electrical, plumbing and technological infrastructure updates began shortly after the measure passed.
